Shelby Officer Sword - 42 inches
This sword is a replica of the sword General "Jo" Shelby carried in the Civil War.
The 42 inch stainles steel blade is engraved with CSA on one side. It features a black handle wrapped in gold wire with a Brass guard and pommel.
This Shelby Officer sword also comes with a Black Metal scabbard.
In 1861 Shelby enlisted as a captain in the Confederate cavalry and later fought at Wilson's Creek. Promoted to colonel he commanded a brigade at Prairie Grove. He led his "Iron Brigade" of Missouri volunteers on the longest cavalry raid of the war. From September 22 to November 3 1863 Shelby's force traversed 1500 miles throughout Missouri inflicting more than 1000 casualties on Union forces and capturing or destroying an estimated $2 million worth of Federal supplies and property. ?Flintlock? pistols were so called because the lock uses a flint to strike sparks into the priming pan when the trigger is pulled. A small amount of gunpowder in this pan is ignited, which in turn ignites the main gunpowder charge in the barrel, firing the lead ball. Both the main charge and the ball were loaded from the front, or muzzle, of the barrel, after which the priming charge was poured into the pan ? all very time consuming! Often the priming charge would burn but fail to ignite the main charge ? hence the expression ?flash in the pan?! The original of this particular flintlock pistol was made by Lorenzi in Italy in about 1680 and the engraved coat of arms is that of the famous Medici family.
